What’s up world!!! AFAR is back on a mission to take hip hop to areas in the world that may not have otherwise had an opportunity to experience it up close. This time we’re headed to PERU!! We’ll be visiting the cities of Lima, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Cajamarca and Huancayo.

RJJAZZ leading the discussion on hip hop and its culture.

The US Embassy in Peru has given us the opportunity to do workshops on hip hop and perform free concerts to all that would like to come. Our trip is different this time in that the Embassy has partnered with the Bi-National Centers in a few Peruvian cities to provide us with audiences that are either beginning to learn English or are on track to speak English fluently. Our workshops and performances give them an opportunity to exercise all that they’ve learned by interacting with us through shows and Master Classes.

One advantage to doing the workshops is that we are able to speak with the kids on a one on one basis and answer any questions they may have been too shy to ask during the general session. It often seems that we learn a lot from them just through the interaction!

We absolutely love the opportunity to perform for the communities that we visit. Whenever possible we try meet with local artists and invite them to perform during the show with us, promoting unity through the music! Check out some images from our show!

I can't hear you!

Here’s a pic of some of the great people that have brought us here. These are the personnel from the US Embassy in Lima and the BNC in Trujillo:

More pics, info and video to come while were are traveling!!!
